The Bru refugee camps in Tripura are abuzz with political activities after the Election Commission has announced the election date for Mizoram Assembly.

Notably all these refugees lodged in the camps of north Tripura are voters of Mizoram.

The refugees have suddenly emerged as important persons as they are deciding and key factor in at least two Assembly seats in Mamit district.

Sources in north Tripura claimed that party workers of various political parties have already started visiting the camps during the last couple of days.

Even the refugee leaders, it is learnt are establishing contacts with the leaders of various political parties.

Last week, a six-member team of Mizoram State Election Commission conducted the routine procedure of enlisting the names of these Bru refugees in the electoral roll at Naisinghpara camp in Kanchanpur.

Notably, these Bru refugees who are originally residents of Mizoram have been casting their votes from Tripura through postal ballot in the previous elections ever since they took refuge in Tripura.

Though any official declaration is not made till date, it is presumed that these refugees will take to postal ballot this time also.

It will be noteworthy to watch as to which party these refugees vote for especially after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government stopped supply of free ration to the refugee camps from October 1 last.
