BJP supporters on Tuesday staged demonstrations and blocked roads to prevent a CPIM MLA team led by former Tripura chief minister, Manik Sarkar from visiting Khayerpur in Tripura.

They were protesting against the alleged attack on BJP supporters by CPIM leader and former minister, Pabitra Kar and his supporters on December 20.

The BJP supporters also blocked roads in four places including Kashipur and shouted slogans “Manik Sarkar go back”.

BJP local leader Biswajit Shil, “If Pabitra Kar is not arrested, we will continue with the blockade.”

Meanwhile, police rushed to the spot to control the situation.

The CPIM team had to return to Agartala as they could not enter Khayerpur, where they had gone to meet party workers injured during the attack on December 30.

Miscreants had burnt and looted ransacked 30 houses of CPIM supporters, including Pabitra Kar’s house on the night of December 30.

Two CPIM supporters, Litan Das and Swadhananda Das were seriously injured during the attack and have been shifted to Kolkata for better treatment

‘We were going to Khayerpur to visit the victims injured during the attack” said Pabitra Kar.

“The ruling party-backed miscreants burnt and ransacked many houses and tortured left supporters, including women,” he said.
