BJP national president JP Nadda, who is acting as the mediator between dissident MLAs and Tripura state leadership, has cancelled his scheduled visit to Tripura after testing positive for Covid-19.

Nadda was to arrive on a two-day visit to the state this month to solve the internal problems arising within the BJP Tripura unit after a few dissident MLAs demanded a change in the state leadership.

The dissident MLAs had shouted slogans, “Biplab Hatao, BJP Bachao” during the recent visit of BJP Tripura in-charge, Vinod Sonkar.

Saddened by the slogans, Tripura chief minister, Biplab Kumar Deb had called a public meeting on December 13 to seek a public mandate on whether he should continue to rule the state.

Nadda had then stepped in to resolve the issue and asked Deb to continue as the chief minister of the state.

Meanwhile, Tripura MP Pratima Bhowmik said that there is no rebel group within the state BJP.

The dissident MLAs had gone to Delhi in October to meet senior BJP leaders to express their dissatisfaction with the state of affairs of the current BJP government in Tripura.

They had also met North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener, Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati to discuss the issue.
