Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb visited Tripura Sundari Temple at Udaipur on Saturday and celebrated the Diwali festival at the temple.

Chief minister Deb along with his wife and daughter participated in the Mangalarati on the bank of Kalyan Sagar of Udaipur.

With the rituals of Mangalarati, Kali puja started in the Tripura Sundari Temple.

The Holy Mother, Tripura Sundari, was paid obeisance in the wee hours of Saturday.

Tripura agriculture minister Pranjit Singh Roy and MLA Biplab Ghosh were also present in the temple in the morning.

They all participated in the Mangalarati rituals at the ghats of Matabari lake – Kalyan Sagar.

Every year, thousands of people started to gather at the temple in the morning but this year, the public movement has been restricted due to the pandemic.

The temple, which is over 500 years old, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of Hindus. The temple was constructed by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in 1501.

Tripura Sundari Temple is a Hindu temple of Goddess Tripura Sundari, locally known as Devi Tripureshwari.

The temple is situated in the ancient city of Udaipur, about 55 km from Agartala.
