Two persons from Tripura have been arrested in Assam on charges of their involvement in ATM fraud.

Based on a tip-off, a team of police from Patharkandi police station in Assam’s Karimganj district on Saturday nabbed two persons for being involved in an ATM fraud case.

The duo was apprehended from the Patharkandi SBI ATM kiosk.

Assam Police have registered a case against the duo.

Police produced the two culprits before the court which sent them to judicial custody.

The arrested criminals have been identified as 24-year-old Hasan Ali and 19-year-old Formuz Ali.

Both are from Baghan village under Churaibari police station in the North Tripura district.

“Police seized several ATM cards, two mobile sets along with a cash amount of Rs 7,000 from their possession,” said sources.

The arrested duo has confessed to their involvement in ATM fraud before Assam Police, sources said.

The officer-in-charge of Patharkandi police station, Tanbir Ahmed, said: “The arrested fraudsters committed such crimes in different districts of Tripura and this time they came to Assam for camping in Patharkandi.”

“As the people come to the ATM counter, they change cards in the name of helping the common people and then take away the money of the people through the original cards,” the police officer said.

According to sources, there are several cases lodged against the duo in different police stations of Tripura.

Tripura police are in the process of bringing the duo to the state.
