Air Asia to launch Agartala-New Delhi flight

The leading no frills airlines Air Asia is planning to launch flights from New Delhi to Agartala.

As Air Asia was planning to add new domestic destinations in the eastern India, and Agartala – New Delhi sector has been found to be lucrative for its expansion plans.

“We have big plans to expand our network across India, and Agartala is definitely going to be our new destination,” Sanjay Kumar, COO of Air Asia, said.

At present, Air Asia has a fleet of 23 aircrafts, covering 20 destinations across India. In the northeast, the airline has been flying to Guwahati and Imphal.

The airline is a joint venture between Tata Sons and AirAsia Berhad. It commenced operations on June 12, 2014 in India.

The budget airline also plans to add another 17 aircraft to its fleet in the current financial year, Kumar said.

After withdrawal of Jet Airways services, passengers from Agartala have been facing serious problems.

Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Civil Aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri and had requested them to introduce new flights to Agartala.
