Agartala to host BSF-BGB regional meet from July 22

Tripura capital Agartala is going to host a four-day meeting of border guards of India and Bangladesh to be held on July 22 next in the Tripura Frontier BSF headquarters at Salbagan, said a senior official of BSF.

At the Inspectors General (IG) level meeting, Regional Commanders of BGB’s Sarail and Chittagong and BSF’s three Frontiers’ heads – Tripura, Meghalaya, and Cacher are scheduled to meet to discuss various border-related issues like trans-border movement, smuggling, and border crime, said L Lohia,  IG, BSF, Tripura Frontier.

Although the regional level meeting is routine except few issues both sides maintain excellent relation, according to the IG.

He added that border crime has been drastically reduced along the Tripura-Bangladesh border due to improved cooperation between both the border guards besides sharing of messages on trans-border crime, illegal movement across the border and smuggling.

He further added that BGB recently has set up five border outposts in Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT) to maintain vigil along the border.

Moreover, fencing has also contributed towards curbing militant activities and trans-border crime.

Around 90 per cent of the total 856 km Indo-Bangla border has already been fenced so far.
