Three incidents of rape, including two gang rapes, have been reported in Khowai district of Tripura amid COVID19 pandemic.

According to sources, a 17-year-old girl was raped by five persons in a car on Tuesday evening.

The girl was raped by the five when she went to Chakmaghat to meet her boyfriend.

The victim is a resident of Mungiakami village.

Sources said, “When the girl was returning home in the evening, one of her relatives boarded her in a car assuring that he would drop her in her home.”

“There were four more youths in the car with her relative. In the middle of the road, she was gang raped by the five,” sources said.

After being raped, the girl was dumped at Teliamura in front of the branch office of UBI bank.

The girl somehow managed to call her boyfriend, who rushed to spot and took her to the hospital.

Later the girl went to the Teliamura police station with the help of her boyfriend.

The victim girl told the police that she was raped by Kashim Mia, Jahed Mia, Ahamed Ali, Gani Mia and one more person.

The victim said instead of taking her towards her home, the rapists took her to a forest near Khasiya Mangal area and raped her there and later dumped at Teliamura near the UBI bank branch.

Teliamura sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) V Jagadishwar Reddy and officer-in-charge Swapan Debbarma immediately started investigation and sent a team to Chakmaghat and Tuimodhu area in search of the rapists.

However, police are yet to arrest the rapists.

In another incident, a 7-year-old girl was allegedly raped at Teliamura which has generated mass resentment at Jarulong Bari village.

Reportedly, the incident took place a few days back but a case in this regard was lodged with the police only on Tuesday.

Sources said the little girl in a morning went out to answer nature’s call.

A youth, identified as Dhanajoy Debbarma, took her to a nearby jungle and raped.

After returning home, the girl revealed everything before her mother.

The victim’s mother first shared with the locals and as no solution came out, she filed an FIR in Teliamura police station.

A case (No 77/2020) was registered under sections 376(A) (B) of IPC and 04 of POSCO  on Tuesday.

However, the rapist has remained absconding.

Another incident of gang rape took place on July 18 night at Champahour in Khowai district.

The victim is a housewife, who lodged a case at Champahour police station regarding the incident on Tuesday.

Two rapists have been arrested by police and they were produced before the Khowai court on Wednesday. The court sent them to 14-day judicial custody.
