Just a day after the Supreme Court ruled that adultery was no longer a criminal offence; a 40-year-old woman was tied to a tree, thrashed and humiliated with a garland of shoes around her neck in Gomati district of Tripura.
The incident took place on Thursday at Purba Rangamati village in Tripura’s Gomati district. The woman was allegedly having an illicit relationship with a married man.
Also, the face of the woman was allegedly smeared by black ink by a mob that included men as well as women, and she was reportedly thrashed after being tied to a tree in broad daylight, Mirror Now reported.
The woman, a mother of two was forcefully dragged from a paddy field and then subjected to such horrid mob violence.
Navadwip Jamatiya, Additional Superintendent of Police told a new agency that her statement was recorded and the investigation is underway.
Police rushed to the crime scene and rescued the woman in an unconscious state. She was immediately admitted to a local hospital and a case was filed at Birganj police station. According to Souvik De, Amarpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer, one woman has been arrested in connection to the incident.
