A rampaging elephant killed a 62-year-old man near a jungle in Kalyanpur in West Tripura on Wednesday afternoon.

Sexagenarian Chitta Mohan Debbarma had gone to the nearby jungle to collect firewood when a wild elephant attacked unsuspecting Debbarma.

Debbarma was trampled to death by the wild pachyderm.

On hearing about the incident, the police along with forest department officials reached the spot but it was too late.

Man-elephant tussle is reaching monstrous proportions in the Northeast.

Death caused by wild tuskers is not something new in Kalyanpur. It happens at regular interval.
