Tripura’s Neermahal is all set to host the first ever International Tourism Mart from November 24.

Around 300 tourists from different parts of the country and abroad will be welcomed to Neermahal, the only lake palace in eastern India for the tourism mart.

The event which is aimed at promoting tourism in a big way, will have eighty foreign tourists for a tourism event of the state for the first time.

Additional Chief Secretary Dr GSG Ayyangar visited Neermahal, around 40 km from the State capital, on November 11 and held a meeting with high officials of the departments concerned.

Neermahal is getting a facelift in preparation for the event.

The sluice gate at Katigang, a tributary of Gomati, has been opened to keep the water level in the Rudra Sagar at a certain level. During dry spell, the water level in the lake recedes to just three feet due to heavy siltation.

DWS officials, however, are hopeful of keeping the water level at a certain level in the lake to woo tourists.

Massive renovation and cleanliness drives have been taken for the tourism carnival, reports The Assam Tribune.

According to sources, Food to the special guests will be supplied by a Guwahati-based five star hotel, a wing of the Mumbai-based Taj Hotel. A cultural programme will be staged in honour of the 300 tourists.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has been trying to promote tourism in a big way to boost revenue generation.
