In what can be a major breakthrough in cancer treatment, a research scholar from Tripura is engaged with a team that claimed that a chemical which if mixed with chemotherapy solution will successfully restrain the growth of cancer cells.

According to a tripurainfo.com report, American Cleveland clinic claimed that a group of scientists and researchers including the Tripura girl Sharmistha De who are engaged with the institution have discovered a chemical which if mixed with chemotherapy solution will successfully restrain the growth of cancer cells

The researchers claimed that it would prevent the growth of cancer cells in human throat, research of which were conducted under the supervision of Cleveland clinic for the past two years.

The Cleveland research paper was published in the American Association of Cancer Research Journal, added the report.

According to the estimates of World Health Organization (WHO), cancer is the second most death inflicting disease across the world. And lungs cancer is the most common form of cancer resulting in the most number of deaths all over the world.

Sarmistha’s, ‘CBL0137’ patent is applied with chemotherapy cisplatin which will make it workable.

The research paper also claimed that when ‘CBL0137 and chemotherapy cisplatin’ are injected together into the body of a rat, its survivable chances increased considerably which in turn have provided a ray of hope that the humans might also survive cancer.

Notably, Sharmistha completed her Masters in physiology from Rajabazar Science College and later on pursued her Ph D from Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital and travelled to USA in 2001 for further studies.
