Agartala: The Royal Scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, on Monday, wrote a letter to the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Council, Dipak Majumdar, seeking immediate intervention for the indigenous vegetable sellers who were evicted from the Abhoynagar Bridge Area in Agartala.

Pradyot who is also chairman of the Tipra Motha wrote, “ I am writing to bring to your kind attention the pressing issue faced by local Indigenous Vegetable Sellers and Street Vendors of the Abhoynagar Bridge Area under the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). These sellers, who have been doing business in the area for over seven (7) years now, have become an integral part of the local market, but are now facing significant hardships. For the last six months, they have encountered threats and obstacles from various individuals and groups and their longstanding arrangement was recently disrupted, with their stalls being dismantled and directives issued to relocate elsewhere”.

He said that the sudden disruption in their selling space has caused them severe financial losses and put their families’ livelihoods at risk. Many of these individuals depend entirely on this business for their survival.

“I respectfully request that you consider their situation on humanitarian grounds and provide a permanent solution. We urge you to facilitate a suitable sitting arrangement for these Indigenous Vegetable Sellers and Street Vendors, allowing them to continue their trade without further distress”, the letter added.
