The victims were among six individuals reported missing from a relief camp and were allegedly abducted and held hostage by militants.

Their lifeless bodies were discovered near a river in the remote village of Jirimukh, close to the Manipur-Assam border, on Friday evening.

Expressing his anguish, Pradyot said, “A 60-year-old woman and a two-year-old child have been brutally murdered in Manipur. I hang my head in shame as a Northeasterner and as a human being. The government must ensure that these culprits are hanged for killing innocent women and children in the name of their so-called cause. Such heinous acts are indefensible.”

He further criticized the lack of action and highlighted the potential for alienation in the region due to such incidents.

“The Government of India must do more. The Northeast is an integral part of India, and incidents like these deepen feelings of neglect and isolation. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” he added.

Pradyot reiterated the need for humanity and justice to prevail over divisive agendas, emphasizing that the lives of the innocent and vulnerable must be protected at all costs.
