Acting on a tip-off, West Tripura district police seized 2590 bottles of the banned cough syrup ‘Escuf’ and arrested one person identified as one Prantosh Paul of Bishalgarh, said the Superintendent of Police (SP) of West Tripura district, Ajit Pratap Singh.
The contraband was hidden in a car and was moving to be smuggled across the border where it has huge demand and used as substitute to drink.
Later, during interrogation and on the basis of the information provided by the arrested person, police also recovered Rs six lakhs from his house in Bishalgarh bordering Sepahijala district.
The whole operation was conducted by sub divisional police officer (SDPO), Mohanpur in coordination with SDPO of Bisalgarh.
Meanwhile a case has been lodged at Lefunga police station in this connection.
Notably, Tripura Police is on a mission to make the State drugs free and during the period of last six months, the state police have recovered around 50,000 kg of dry ganja besides sufficient quantity of brown sugar, large amount of cough syrup and tables used as drugs.
