The order comes in the wake of violence that erupted in North district’s Kadamtala over alleged forceful collection of Durga Puja donations

Agartala: Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan has transferred North district Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhanupada Chakraborty to the state police headquarters in state capital Agartala.

The order comes in the wake of violence that erupted in North district’s Kadamtala over alleged forceful collection of Durga Puja donations.

“Bhanupada Chakraborty, IPS, SP (North), Tripura, is hereby transferred to PHQ, Agartala, with immediate effect and until further notice,” the order read.

“He is instructed to report to PHQ immediately. Avinash Rai, IPS, SP (Dhalai), Tripura, will take charge of the duties of SP (North) in addition to his current responsibilities until further orders,” it added.

The violence, that claimed the life of one person, saw shops and houses being vandalised.
