Agartala: Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah urging for early completion of border fencing work and augmentation of Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh border to prevent infiltration.
In the letter, Deb said Tripura shares an 856-km-long border with Bangladesh and a major portion of fencing has already been completed.

He, however, said that a stretch of about 26.64 km still remains unfenced.
“It has been informed that there is no issue of land acquisition for undertaking border fencing in the left out area and the construction agencies are carrying on the work of border fencing in the left out portion, but at a very slow pace,” Deb wrote.

Deb pointed out that the old fence in some portions is rusty which needs proper maintenance.
“Now with the disturbed law and order situation in Bangladesh, there is a possibility of vested interests taking advantage of the porous border. It is, therefore, requested that concerned agencies be directed for early completion of fencing of the left out portion and renovation of the old border fence, wherever needed,” he added.
The Lok Sabha MP further said that the strength of BSF needs to be augmented in order to prevent any adverse impact of the unrest in Bangladesh on Tripura.
