The opposition Left Front in Tripura alleged that ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been unleashing terror tactics to keep the opposition out of the electoral race.
A delegation of Left Front led by convener Bijan Dhar along with leaders of CPI(M), CPI, RSP and Forward Block on Thursday met State Election Commissioner during a deputation and submitted a memorandum demanding protection in the democratic activities of opposition parties for the ensuing three-tier panchayat elections in the State.
Later in interacting with media at the CPI (M) headquarters in Agartala on Thursday afternoon, Dhar claimed that their leaders were physically attacked during all-party meetings at different places of the State and several of their leaders and cadres were also injured.
Dhar alleged that leaders belonging to opposition CPI-M and the Congress were forced to leave the all-party meeting because of threat by BJP backed persons at Bamutia BDO office.
The Left Front demanded an atmosphere conducive for conducting free and fair election, improvement of law and order, adequate security for all contesting opposition candidates, measures to facilitate submission of nomination papers at District Magistrate offices and equal rights of all opposition parties for campaigning during the elections.
