Tripura government on Thursday has decided to set up Crime Branch of Tripura Police to contain drug menace and other heinous crimes. The decision was taken at the cabinet meet.

Tripura law minister Ratan Lal Nath told reporters here at Agartala that the cabinet had accorded top priority to bring drug menace and related crimes under control.

“In view of bringing the law and order under control and we have accorded top priority to stop illegal business of marijuana, corex and phensydel (contrabands), tablets used as drugs in the state. Those involved in such heinous crimes will be dealt with tough hands,” he said

Nath further said that the state government has decided to set up Tripura Police Crime Branch.  Necessary manpower and modern equipment shall be provided to make the crime branch strong up to district level. He said initiative has been taken to make Tripura a drug and crime free state.
