Agartala: Tripura has registered a 24 per cent rise in enrollment in government pre-primary schools this academic year compared to the previous year, officials from the Education Department said on Friday.
The update was shared during the closing session of a five-day teacher training workshop organised by the Directorate of Elementary Education in West Tripura district.
The training programme, which began on May 12, included 100 teachers from 94 newly opened pre-primary schools introduced in the 2026-27 academic session. It focused on play-based learning methods and classroom practices for early childhood education.
Education Secretary Dr Milind Dharmarao Ramteke said pre-primary education has been made compulsory under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and highlighted the importance of early learning for children aged three to six years.
He noted that much of brain development takes place by the age of six and said the care and education provided during these formative years lay the foundation for a childโs future.
Ramteke urged teachers to build trust and confidence among young learners, stressing that educators play a crucial role in shaping the next generation.
He also added that the success of various initiatives taken by the Education Department would depend on teachersโ commitment and effective classroom implementation.
An exhibition showcasing teaching-learning materials prepared by teachers was also held during the concluding programme, featuring handmade puppets and other low-cost educational aids.
Joint Director of Elementary Education Harshita Biswas encouraged teachers to apply the training learnings in their respective schools and said similar programmes would be conducted in phases across all districts of the state.
