NDRF has been carrying out extensive operations across Tripura to rescue stranded people

Guwahati: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been carrying out extensive rescue and relief operations across Tripura devastated by the worst-ever floods affecting several lakh people over the past week.

Several teams of NDRF have been pressed into service to rescue the marooned people and distribute relief materials to those affected by the catastrophic floods

Continuing its relentless efforts, the specialised force has been working in close coordination with the local authorities and other emergency services rescuing as many as 1,790 people stranded due to the gushing flood waters.

Equipped with boats and sophisticated equipment, these teams have been actively supporting the respective district administration in distributing relief materials, ensuring essential supplies reach the flood victims.

Meanwhile, top NDRF officials have rushed to the state to assess the ground situation. The officials also convened a meeting with the state revenue secretary to review the situation and plan further action.

At least 24 persons have been killed in the state due to floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains since August 20. The deluge has affected a population of 17 lakh with over 1.28 lakh of them taking refuge in 557 relief camps spread across the affected areas.

However, the situation has improved with rain god showing mercy since Saturday (August 24).
