Members of the Indian Medical Association of Tripura and the All Tripura Government Doctors Association showed their solidarity and staged protest over attack on doctors in West Bengal.

Dr. Kanak Choudhury, general secretary of West Tripura district of All Tripura Government Doctor’s Association said they are protesting against the brutal incident in Kolkata’s NRS hospital where Dr. Paribha Mukharjee was critically injured in a mob attack.

“We are protesting against the barbaric act. We are doing it solidarity with the doctors and hospital staff of West Bengal,” Dr. Choudhury said, adding, “We demand round the clock security for doctors in the hospital.”

Senior and junior doctors, along with intern and medical student took part in protest from 12 noon to 4 pm on Friday in front of Agartala Government Medical College and GB Panth hospital.

Earlier, they also organized a silent procession in Agartala, wearing black badges, holding posters and placards in protest against incidents of violence against doctors and medical staff in West Bengal.

The doctors association demanded for a new national law against violence in hospitals and emphasized on the need for strict implementation of existing Medical Protecting Act at the state level.

They condemned the brutal violence at NRS medical college and demanded for strict actions against the culprits.
