Doctors in all state run hospitals and medical colleges in Tripura on Monday abstained from duties in the outpatient departments (OPD)s in solidarity with the striking medicos in Kolkata.

ATGDA general secretary Rajesh Choudhuri said doctors are keeping themselves away from OPDs in all the government hospitals.

Ruling BJP MLA Dilip Das, who is also a doctor, however, attended to patients in the OPDs of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a nationwide strike with withdrawal of non-essential health services across the country in the wake of the recent assault on doctors in West Bengal.
