Agartala: A day after BJP registered a record margin victory in Tripura’s Dharmanagar assembly constituency under North Tripura district,a BJP councillor and youth wing chief of the local unit,Rahul Kishore Roy died by suicide at his own residence.
His body was recovered in the morning, after which tensions quickly escalated in the area. As news spread, supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party took to the streets demanding immediate action, staging a major road blockade in the Chandrapur area along with local civic leaders, which caused significant traffic disruptions in nearby areas.
Family members alleged that Roy had been under severe mental stress due to repeated harassment and threats by unidentified persons.

Roy’s wife, Ananya Bhattacharjee, filed a complaint naming seven accused Kankan Choudhury, Hirakjyoti Nath, Manoj Purkayastha, Niladri Bhattacharjee, Abhijit Das, Suraj Deb, and Prabal Deb along with others, alleging that they trespassed into their home, assaulted family members, and issued death threats.
She stated that the continued intimidation left her husband distressed, and she later found him hanging in the bathroom on Tuesday morning. Roy was a close associate of late former MLA Biswabandhu Sen, whose demise had led to the Dharmanagar by-election.
