Tripura CPI-M in trouble over gang-rape incident

The Tripura unit of the CPI-M is now in trouble with the Agartala gang-rape case and witnessing massive criticism across the State.

On the night of September 24 last, one woman was gang-raped at Agrtala.

A day later of the incident the CPI-M state committee issued a circular condemning the heinous offense.

They also demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

But in that circular CPI-M state committee mentioned the name of the husband of victim, his occupation and also where he lives in.

But on September 26, the CPI-M state committee also circulated another statement and sought forgiveness for their earlier statement where they mentioned the name of the victim’s husband, address and his occupation.

CPI-M Tripura state committee is now criticized by the ruling party BJP and Tripura State Women Commission.

The women commission also lodged an FIR against Rakhal Majumder, the CPI-M worker who had signed the statement on behalf of the state committee.

Meanwhile, West Agartala police station has registered the FIR against Rakhal Majumder.

Tripura State Women Commission’s chairperson Barnali Goswami said it is very unfortunate that the political party do not have any sense.

They are exposing the identity of a rape victim which is a punishable offense.

Barnali Goswami told they will take this matter seriously and they will take legal action.

On the other hand, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacaharjee told to the media that they have no words to condemn this activity of CPI-M.

He said people can easily understand who are now in CPI-M, those have no respect on women.

With this case the ruling BJP was in back foot.

Different political parties and organizations criticizing state government on law and order issue, but after CPI-M circulated that statement BJP is now accusing CPI-M and the entire opposition.
