The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Tuesday expressed its firm resolution to move the Supreme Court demanding compensation for the victims of violence during the Lok Sabha elections in the State.

TPCC president and royal scion Pradyut Kishore Deb Barman while interacting with media persons in Agartala on Tuesday was of the opinion that the State witnessed the worst law and order situation in the last two months during the Lok Sabha elections.

He was of the view that during the first phase of elections on April 11 last, the incidents of violence were worst adding that though his party had demanded re-poll at 436 polling booths, but re-polling it took place only at 168 stations.

Barman said it was a shame for the State as the second phase polling scheduled to be held on April 18 vote had to be rescheduled to April 23.

Barman stood firm in appealing in the apex court to demand adequate compensation for the families who lost their kin or were injured during the violence and for the properties damaged during the violence.

Barman said the Supreme Court will guide either the Election Commission or the State Government to pay the compensation to the victims.

He further accused the BJP workers of attacking people in the State. Barman was also critical over the role of the state police force alleging that the Tripura Police had failed to control the law and order situation.

The pradesh Congress chief also took to Twitter to vent his anger and seek justice for those victims of poll related violence.
