Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has stressed on a social media campaign to curb road mishaps in the State.
Chief Minister Deb on Sunday, while inaugurating a Road Safety Awareness Campaign launched by the State Transport department at Agartala, said there is need of a social media campaign to reduce road mishaps.
While addressing a meeting organised on the occasion at Rabindra Bhavan, the Chief Minister asked the teachers to discuss about road safety measures in the schools.
The CM also appealed to all to make the common people aware of road safety measures.
Tripura has witnessed increase in incidents of road mishaps every year.
The number of vehicles is also on the rise every year in the State.
So, the State Trasport department organized the special awareness campaign on road safety.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Deb came down heavily on the former Left Front government in the State stating that the former government in its 25 years of rule did nothing to streamline the transport and traffic system.
He also criticized the guardians who have failed to properly guide their children having bikes.
Deb said, “The parents can spend 80,000 rupees for buying a bike for their children but they cannot spend money to buy a good quality helmet.”
He said, “A good quality helmet can save a life during a road mishap.”
The CM also said some youths have a tendency to ‘overtake’ others’ vehicles with high speed to establish themselves as “heroes”.
“This kind of activities result in accidents and death,” he said.
Tripura Transport Minister Pranjit Singha Roy, Director General of Tripura Police Akhil Kumar Sukhla and Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Prafullajit Sinha were also present at the event.
After the meeting, an awareness rally was taken out with participation of the Chief Minister.
