Tripura CM initiates exporting bamboo idols to Maharashtra with Fadnavis

Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday said that he would take up the matter of exporting bamboo idols of Lord Ganesha with his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis.

While inaugurating a workshop on Government e-Marketplace (GeM), Deb said that the bamboo idols of Lord Ganesha have a huge demand and its sales might be boosted in Maharashtra.

He hoped that the bamboo industry of the state will be developed with the help of GeM.

Deb also requested all the bamboo artisans, entrepreneurs and cultivators to register their names with GeM to avail better market opportunities.

‘Through Government’s e-Marketplace (GeM) Tripura’s bamboo industry will get one stop portal to facilitate online procurement of bamboo handicrafts required by various government departments or PSUs. GeM aims to enhance transparency, efficiency and speed in public procurement.’

Tripura is home to 21 species of bamboo out of 130 species available in India.

The state has 2397 sq km of bamboo forests forming about 23 per cent geographical area of the State.
