Guwahati: In order to unearth fake lawyers from the system, the Tripura Bar Council (TBC) has said that it plans to conduct a survey to identify and cleanse the legal system of fake lawyers in the state.

A senior member of the bar council conveyed on Friday that it had contacted all bar associations in the state for a list of lawyers who claimed to have obtained their law degrees after the year 1990.

The move to launch the survey came amidst concerns voiced by some people that there may be some fake lawyers who have obtained the degree through corrupt means and falsely registered with the Bars.

The deadline for submitting the list is April 15, after which a verification process will take place in the state.

This is not the first time that TBC has taken action against fake lawyers.

Here it must be noted that the previous efforts of the TBC have not been thoroughly successful as they were not able to complete the identification process.

According to reports once the fake lawyers are identified, they will be struck off the Bar Council Roll and face consequences under the Advocates Act, 1961.
