In continuation of the tripartite talks involving Government of Manipur, Central Government and United Naga Council (UNC) on the district creation issue, a meeting was held at the DRDA conference Hall in the Senapati district headquarters, 60 km north of Imphal on Friday.

In the day’s talk, it was agreed that the State government will finalise its stand on the issue UNC demands by April 10, 2018 and will inform the Central government and the UNC about it.

It was also agreed upon that the next round of talks will be held on April 27, 2018. It may be mentioned that UNC was protesting against the creation of new districts. The then Congress government created seven new districts in December 2016.

The talk was attended by Cabinet Ministers V Hangkhanlian (Agriculture), N Kayisii (Tribal and Hill Area Development), Thokchom Radheshyam Singh (Education) and L Jayentakumar(Health) besides two senior officials – Dr J Suresh Babu, Additional Chief Secretary, T Ranjit Singh, Secretary (Revenue) representing the State government.

Gaidon Kamei, President, UNC, S Milan, General Secretary, UNC, Seth Shatsang, President, All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur, Asha Wungnam, President, Naga Women’s Union and 12 other leaders were present at the meeting.
