An earthquake measuring a magnitude of 5.3 in the richter scale jolted Mizoram on Saturday night at 10:45 pm.

However, police sources said no damage was reported.

Citizens from across the State took to social media and reported they have felt the tremor.

Residents of all the eight districts of Mizoram reported the earthquake.

The tremor was also felt in state capital Aizawl, where people rushed out of houses, officials said.

The quake occurred at 10.45 pm at a depth of 24 kilometer, the India Meteorological Department said.

The epi-centre was located at 23.9 north latitude and 93.3 east longtitude, in Champhai district, the met office said on its website.

In Aizawl, the tremor seemed to have struck harder and more felt in western side and northern side of the city.

Residents rushed out of their homes in fear.
