In a progressive gesture, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has roped in members from the transgender community to collect pending taxes of around Rs 11 crores.
As per reports, the BMC has formed a team comprising of 10 members from the community and they are presently being trained in the tax collection procedure using POS machines.

The members have also been provided with uniforms, identity cards and a vehicle for the purpose.
‘Pay your tax, get blessing s from us’ is what the team says to the defaulters while collecting the pending taxes.
The team, on its first day on duty, managed to make a recovery of Rs 70,000.

“The team will continue to visit the defaulters’ homes for the rest of the month,” BMC officials said.
“I am thankful to BMC and state government for giving us the opportunity to carry out this noble work and earn a living for ourselves,” reported India Today quoting Meghna Sahu, a member of the transgender community.
“This also brings us to the mainstream,” Sahu added.
