The members have also been provided with uniforms, identity cards and a vehicle for the purpose.

‘Pay your tax, get blessing s from us’ is what the team says to the defaulters while collecting the pending taxes.

The team, on its first day on duty, managed to make a recovery of Rs 70,000.

“The team will continue to visit the defaulters’ homes for the rest of the month,” BMC officials said.

“I am thankful to BMC and state government for giving us the opportunity to carry out this noble work and earn a living for ourselves,” reported India Today quoting Meghna Sahu, a member of the transgender community.

“This also brings us to the mainstream,” Sahu added.
