The vigilance and anti-corruption bureau of Assam police on Wednesday raided four houses owned by a senior forest official in Guwahati.
The anti-graft sleuths conducted raid at the residence of divisional forest officer (DFO) Aftabuddin Ahmed at Sundarpur besides three other places in Guwahati in connection with a disproportionate asset case.
Sources said raids were being conducted at Asiana Girls’ Hostel at Japorigog, at a flat in Spanish Garden in front of State Zoo and at Brindavan Apartment in Six Mile area of the city.
According to an official, some important documents relating to Ahmed’s property have been seized during the raids.
Ahmed, who had served as DFO of Nagaon forest division during previous Congress government, is known as a close associate of former forest and environment minister Rakibul Hussain.
Sources claimed Ahmed owns immovable properties at different places in Guwahati and Nagaon and value of these properties run into several crores of rupees.
According to the source he had accumulated assets by misappropriating funds of different schemes undertaken by Assam forest and environment department.
Ahmed is likely to be arrested soon, said a vigilance official.
The vigilance and anti-corruption bureau of Assam police in 2016 arrested then Dhemaji divisional forest officer (DFO) Mahat Chandra Talukdar in connection with a disproportionate assets case against him.
Talukdar was arrested after he was caught red-handed taking a bribe in Dhemaji on June 13 in 2016.
