Police have arrested three persons in connection with an incident where an unidentified assailant had shot at a local coal trader – Ajmul Haque at Jogighopa market in Bongaigaon district on Saturday night.
Ajmul,38, was leaving a barber shop in Jogighopa market at about 9 pm when an assailant shot at him and fled the scene riding pillion on a bike.
Ajmul, who received bullet injuries in his belly, has been under medical care in a private hospital in Guwahati.
Following the incident, police had picked up five suspects on Sunday morning for interrogation and two of them were released later in the same evening.
Ajmul’s family had lodged a police complaint about the incident on Sunday afternoon with Jogighopa Police Station.
Accordingly, police had registered a case (No 25/2018) under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy)/307(attempt to murder)/326(voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons)/34 lPC Read With sections 25(1A)/27(2) Arms Act and arrested today the remaining three suspects as accused in the case as per the statement of the victim, said Bongaigaon Superintendent of Police Hridayjit Barman.
The accused have been identified as 50-year-old Babu Sarma, 42-year-old Ahidul Haque and 53-year-old Jahan Uddin.
The Additional District and Sessions court at Abhayapuri in North Salmara Sub-division remanded the accused to four-day police custody after they were produced before it.
