Three girls from Mizoram have been selected by All India Football Federation to attend the coaching camp of U-17 women’s team to be held from July 1 to 15 at SAI, New Delhi for the upcoming BRICS Games 2018.

The players selected for the training camp are Esther Hmingthansangi (goalkeeper), Vanlalhriattiri (Forward) and Grace H Lalrampari (midfield).

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) appointed Shradhanjali Samantray, the former Indian women’s team captain as the coach of U-17 Indian women’s team to kick-off their preparations for the upcoming BRICS Games (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

The BRICS Games will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa in December 2018.

35 players from the country were called upon to attend the national camp and final selection will be had during the course of the camp.

However Esther Hmingthansangi who hailed from a very remote village of Zawngin in northern Aizawl district, failed to gather the necessary documents demanded by the football federation and could not join the camp.

“It is very unfortunate that Esther couldn’t join the camp, she did not have her passport ready, we have very high hopes for Vanlalhriattiri and Grace, they did very well in the sub junior national championship in 2015, and both of them, quite very young have been around in the Mizoram football scene in junior and senior level,” Zonunthari, assistant secretary of Mizoram Football Association women’s sub-committee said.
