Three Assam-based drug peddlers arrested in Arunachal Pradesh

A joint team of Changlang Police and F-149 unit of Changlang CRP apprehended three drug peddlers on Tuesday afternoon in Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border and recovered around 83 grams of ‘suspected’ contraband substance.

The operation was led by inspector CA Namchoom and the peddlers have been identified as Md Sofi Shah, Ghanshyam Pradhan, and Md. Ijaz Khan.

Changlang SP Romil Baniya hailed the operation.

“The team acted swiftly upon receiving a tip-off and trap to nab the culprits at Rangrinkan short –cut Namdang area bordering the two states,” Baniya said.

He further said that these peddlers have been creating a lot of troubles in the area.

The arrested peddlers are of Assamese origin and they are from Margherita and Dibrugarh.

Police said that the border areas of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have turned out to be a safe haven for the drug peddlers.

Drugs peddling has turned to be a mushrooming business in the area, the police added.

A has been registered at Changlang Police Station vide CLG PS C No 30/19 and prosecuted u/s 21(b)/28/29 of the NDPS Act.
