The third edition of the annual Buddha Mahotsava was unveiled and inaugurated by Guru Tulku Rimpoche, Abbot of Thubchog Gatsel-Ling Monastery at the Buddha stadium here on Friday.
Underscoring the importance and promotion of tourism in the district, Guru Tulku said that events such as Buddha Mahotsava facilitate increase in the footfalls of tourists in the area.
“The peaceful co-existence of the six major tribes in the district with their distinct culture and tradition is a remarkable trait and a harbinger of unity, peace and tranquility,” he added.
Later, he inaugurated the traditional huts of Hrusso, Sajolang, Monpa, Bugun, Shertukpen and the Sartangs. He also visited the election stall where demonstration of EVMs and VVPAT were done for public awareness.
Earlier, the local MLA cum chief patron of the celebration Japu Deru while lauding the efforts of the West Kameng district administration opined that Buddha Mahotsava was the right platform to showcase the rich culture and tradition of the six major tribes inhabiting the district.
“It also provides the much needed platform to the budding artists of the area to showcase their talent,” he said.
In this era of modernization and influx of western culture, it becomes imperative to remain rooted to one’s culture and tradition, he added.
The inaugural programme was spiced up with the performance of the Laddakhi cultural troupe and the medley performed by the six tribes of the district.
The three-day cultural extravaganza besides local attractions would witness the performances of Lobsang Delek, K4Kekho with D J Bom, Chochung Drema Thungon, Ritjima and Prakriti, Tenzin Choephel, Alar Dupak, Tsewang Lhamo, DJNo_Mi and special attractions from Laddakhi troupe.
