In a broad daylight crime, unidentified persons on Tuesday looted gold ornaments worth Rs 2 lakh and cash money from a house at Gwjwnpuri in Kokrajhar town.

Police officials said, at around 10.45 am, thieves entered the house of Junu Narzary Nounwgwr near UN Academy in Kokarajhar. Nounwgwr is a government employee.

No one was there when the thieves broke the locks of the main gate, and the front door to enter Nounwgwr’s house.

Nounwgwr and his family members had gone to Titaguri when the thieves managed to enter his house.

“When I came back around 10.45 am, I found that all the locks were broken and thieves took our gold and money,” Nounwgwr told Northeast Now.

There are five rooms in Nounwgwr’s house, and there are tenants as well. The thieves also looted the tanent, Amarjit Basumatary’s house, and took away ornaments and cash.

This was the third incident of burglary in the area in the last seven months. Last year, unidentified persons looted gold ornament worth Rs 3 lakhs from the house of one Rubung Brahma.

Similarly, thieves had also managed to break the locks of Nirjay Brahma’s house and loot Rs 6 lakhs.

People in Kokrajhar are now worried with the sudden rise in such incidents of burglary and theft. Police have failed to nab the thieves.

The residents of Kokrajhar on Tuesday urged the police administration to nab the gangs and ensure safety of the people in the area.
