The District Water and Sanitation Committee of the Bishnupur district administration observed Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) at Panchayat Resource Centre, Mini-Secretariat campus, Bishnupur district headquarters, about 35 km south of Imphal on Monday.

During the celebration, 24 Gram Panchayat Pradhans were awarded ‘Open Defecation Free’ certificates in recognition of their effort to eradicate open defecation in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA from Oinam Radhakishore Singh urged the people to help in keeping the surroundings clean and take up the issue of cleanliness as a personal duty to fulfill.

After conducting social service at the Mini-Secretariat campus, the participants marched through Bishnupur town to the District Hospital to propagate the message of Clean India. Police personnel of various stations and units in Nambol, Bishnupur, Moirang bazaar, Kwakta, Thanga and other places also held social service by cleaning public places as a part of Swachhata Hi Seva observation.

SHS is also observed at community level by Nehru Yuva Kendra and youth club members at Nachou, Ngakhong Siphai, Kumbi and other villages.

Village Health Nutrition and Sanitation Day were observed at Salungpang Village in Tamenglong District of Manipur on Sunday. Around 58 people participated in the event from the village while a team led by Dr Chambo Gonmei (CMO Tamenglong) who was accompanied by Dr Gaiduanreiliu Gangmei (MO), Kalingjuanliu (DPM Tamenglong), Dearson Tontang (SBP Tamenglong), Ab Ngoukambou (ZSBP Tamenglong and Noney), two nurses and one lab technician attended the programme.
