The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Central government as well as  the state government of Tripura asking for reports in response to a petition filed in the court by Pradyut Manikya Debbarman seeking examination of the origin of the people holding top posts in Tripura  government.

The petition filled by Debbarman, the scion of the erstwhile Manikya dynasty in Tripura, was heard in the Court of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.

The apex court has asked both the central and state governments to file their report within next four weeks.

In his petition, Debbarman said that if origin of anyone holding a top position in Tripura government was found in Bangladesh “he or she should vacate the chair.”

The petitioner said that the illegal migrants should be given refugee status.
