Drumming up support for the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA)’s consensus candidate for the ensuing Nagaland by-polls for the Lok Sabha seat, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said the by-polls would not be a contest between ‘two tribes but between two political parties’.

Rio urged the voters to make a crucial choice between NPF and PDA.

While asserting the PDA candidate Tokheho Yepthomi as a grassroots level leader, Rio expressed full confidence on his vast experiences and leadership qualities.

Rio also said that voting for PDA consensus candidate has an added advantage as NDPP is an alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which heads the NDA government.

Coming down heavily on the erstwhile NPF-led DAN government from 2014 onwards, Rio said it had severely affected ‘all spheres of governance and public life’.

Rio was addressing an election rally for the Lok Sabha by-polls at Zunheboto.

Expressing his sincere gratitude to the people of Zunheboto for electing the PDA government to power in the recently-held Assembly elections, Rio hoped that the people would ensure similar result in the ensuing Lok Sabha by-polls.

The by-polls was necessitated as Rio resigned from the Lok Sabha in February to contest the state Assembly elections.

While addressing the rally for the parliamentary by-polls, PDA candidate Tokheho Yepthomi asserted that the decades-old Naga political problem cannot be resolved by those in the opposition.

He further said if elected in the by-polls, he will carry the people’s sentiments to the national capital for an early solution to the vexed issue.
