The Kamrup Metro district administration has made special arrangements for Assam’s biggest spiritual and religious festival Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple.

The socio-spiritual festival beginning on Saturday will continue till Tuesday.

For the convenience of the large number of pilgrims, who will visit Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati for Ambubachi Mela, six temporary shelters have been set up in different parts of Guwahati.

Three temporary shelters have been set up at the Old Jail campus of Fancy Bazar area in the city.

The other three temporary shelters have been set up in Old Railway Station in Pandu, Tarun Singha playground, Baripara and in Nahorbari playground located at the premises of Kamakhya Temple.

The district administration has allocated 80 free buses to take people from Kamakhya Railway Sation to the temporary shelters.

It has also arranged 100 ASTC buses to take pilgrims from the shelters to the base gates of Kamakhya Temple.

Apart from buses, 40 cars have been arranged for ferrying pilgrims to the temple.

Moreover, 20 cars have been allocated for taking senior citizens, handicapped people and women with children to the temple.

The pilgrims can also walk to the temple for witnessing the socio-spiritual congregation. The four walking paths through which the pilgrims can reach the temple include Kamakhya Rotary to Main Road, Mekhela Ujuwa Path, Aruna Cinema Hall to Paschim Duwar Path, Umachal Yoga Ashram through Kalipur.

The district administration has also set up nineteen food counters and fourteen drinking water counters for the pilgrims at different places around the temple.

Last year, over 19 lakh devotees attended the Ambubachi Mela.
