In a joint operation, the Sapekhati-based Army camp under the aegis of the Dao Division along with Sapekhati Police recovered arms and ammunition from the possession of a hardcore cadre of the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) in Charaideo district on Saturday.

As per Army sources, during the joint operation, a sophisticated weapon – MQ 81 Assault rifle – along with two magazines and 78 live rounds of ammunition were recovered from the possession of one apprehended hardcore ULFA (I) cadre, who has been identified as Nirmal Khaklari alias  Nirmal Asom from Borahagaon village in Charaideo district.

Army sources revealed that the apprehended cadre is a member of the banned militant outfit ULFA (I) and he was involved in the firing incident at Balikhitya Petrol Pump and Kanu Tea Estate on April 23, 2018.

This is the third consecutive blow to the banned militant outfit wherein security forces have nabbed the perpetrators in a short period of time.

It may be mentioned that a suspected ULFA-I cadre was apprehended during a joint operation by the Namrup Police, Maibella Army Camp and Joysagar Army Camp under the aegis of the Dao Division.

The operation was launched on the basis of intelligence inputs on April 21, 2018.

The suspected ULFA-I cadre was identified as SS Pvt Navdeep Chetia, a resident of Bokota Kalithan, Nemuguri in Sivsagar district. He is the son of late Vijay Chetia.

One 9-mm pistol, two rounds of live cartridges, one mobile phone and two SIM cards were recovered from the suspected ULFA-I cadre’s possession.

Later, the ULFA-I cadre was handed over to Nemuguri Police Station.
