Sonowal visits Bogibeel Bridge before December 25 inauguration by PM Modi

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today visited the Bogibeel Bridge over the River Brahmaputra  for taking stock of the completion of the work as well as review the preparations for the inaugural programme of the bridge on  December 25 next by the Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi.

The chief minister inspected both the north and the south bank ends of the bridge during his visit and he was accompanied by Minister of State (Independent) for Power Tapan Gogoi, BJP MLAs, Prashanta Phukan, Rituparna Barua, Bhuban Pegu, Dr Ranoj Pegu, Teros Gowala, Commissioner and Secretary of Transport Department Ashutosh Agnihotri along with top officials of Railway Department.

Afterwards, Sonowal discussed the preparations for the inaugural programme in a meeting at the guest house of Railway Department with the top officials of the concerned departments, Railways, the Deputy Commissioners of Dibrugarh and Dhemaji districts.

Sonowal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was going to dedicate this important bridge of Northeast to the nation on the birth day of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on  December 25. Sonowal directed for taking all necessary steps to ensure a glitch-free inaugural programme which will be attended by the people of the districts of north and south banks along with Arunachal Pradesh.

The chief minister said that Bogibeel Bridge would be able to bring revolutionary change to road and rail connectivity between the north and the south banks of Brahmaputra River. The   bridge would fulfil the long felt communication needs of people of both the banks. This bridge would not only contribute in Assam’s progress but will also play a big role in the economic resurgence of the entire region, he opined.
