A national conclave was held on Friday as part of the second day’s programme of the All Boro Student Union (ABSU) golden jubilee celebration at Banasur Fwthar,  Batasipur in Dhekiajuli of Sonitpur district.

The conclave was held under the aegis of noted sociologist Prof Verginious Xaxa from Tezpur University with the theme ‘Tribal/Adivasi struggles in India: It’s Past, Present and Future’.

Along with a host of dignitaries and resources persons from across the country, Dr Bhangya Bhukya, Associate, Hydrabad Central University and Bodi SR, Assistant professor, School of Social work, TISS, Mumbai attended the conclave and dwelt at length on the rights and self-determination of Bodos and other tribal people of the region.

Delivering his lecture on the issue, Dr Bhangya Bhukya, Associate, Hydrabad Central University said it is very unfortunate that despite fifty years of struggle for a separate homeland for the interest of self-determination of the Bodo people, successive governments are not considering it amicably.

“It is their right that they should have their own land,” he said adding, the adivasis across the nation are with them to support their legitimate right.

On the other hand, Bodi SR, Assistant Professor, School of Social Work,TISS, Mumbai stated that the Bodo people have been facing discrimination over the years following which even after 70 years of India’s independence, the Bodos are yet to achieve proper development.

Earlier in the day ABSU president Pramod Boro unfurled the flag of the organization which was followed by homage to the martyrs by vice president, ABSU, Romeo P Narzary and floral tribute to the great souls of the bodos by general secretary, All Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Prashanta Boro.

Thousands of people thronged the venue of the golden jubilee programme on Friday to visit the exhibition hall besides attending the conclave.
