As many as six Northeast States are witnessing high number of new COVID-19 cases on a daily basis.
This was stated by the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Tuesday said high number of new COVID-19 cases have been recorded in the Northeast States of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
The Union Health Ministry has said that detection of such high number of COVID-19 cases in the Northeast has become a “matter of serious concern”.

“Cases in many northeastern states like Assam, Manipur, Nagaland are becoming a cause of concern,” said Luv Agrawal, Joint Secretary to the Union Ministry of Health.
He said that all the states have been asked to implement stringent measures to control the situation.
Notably, Assam has been the worst affected State in the Northeast.
Assam on Tuesday logged as many as 85 COVID-19 deaths and over 6000 new cases.

Meanwhile, Dr Balram Bhargava, director general of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has reiterated that India is facing a massive upsurge in COVID-19 cases with a national positivity rate of 21 percent.
“However, 310 (out of 734) districts are reporting a positivity rate of 42 percent, much higher than the national average,” said Dr Bhargava.
He said that early testing, isolation and home-based care key to control the transmission.
Dr Bhargava informed that India has been conducting 16 lakh RT PCR testing per day whereas 17 lakh RAT tests per day.
