Agartala: Six members of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) (PD group) laid down their arms and surrendered to the Tripura Police on Friday.
The surrender took place at the Special Branch in Agartala, where the extremists handed over two Chinese rifles, a homemade Sten gun, six 70mm live rounds, two Chinese grenades, 15 live rounds of 7.62 caliber, two extortion notice books, and 1000 Bangladesh taka.

The surrendered individuals were identified as Jatindra Tripura (36), Mokhiram Tripura (36), Romawia Reang (50), Johanjoy Reang (36) from the North District, and Pradip Tripura (27) and Mani Charan Tripura (38) from Dhalai District. They had crossed over from their hideout in Bangladesh to rejoin mainstream society.
Krishnendu Chakravertty, DIGP (Intelligence), received the surrender at the Special Branch.
The press release stated that the group, which had been actively operating in Bangladesh between 2017 and 2022, chose to renounce violence and embrace peace.

The surrender is part of a broader trend since January 2022, with a significant number of NLFT cadres surrendering to security forces.
In total, 36 active members have surrendered to Tripura Police and security forces, while eight others have been arrested during this period.
With the recent surrender of six cadres, Tripura is making notable progress in becoming insurgency-free.
