Sikkim was awarded six national awards in different categories of Panchayati Raj on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Day function held at Mandala, Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.
This was informed in an official press release issued on Wednesday.
The first prize of National e-Panchayat Puraskar category was received by State RMD special secretary and Panchayat director M N Dhakal on behalf of the State Government from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Similarly, Maniram Phalidara GPU of South Sikkim was awarded the gram panchayat development plan award for which the panchayat member Topda Bhutia received the award from the Prime Minister.
Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and MoS Panchayat Raj Parshottam Rupala handed over the other four awards to Sikkim.
They presented the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP) to south district zilla panchayat adhyaksha Farwanti Tamang and up-adhyaksha Bhim Bahadur Lakhey.
The DDUPSP to Martam GPU, West Sikkim was received by the panchayat president Chabi Lal Chettri and secretary Kumar Rai.
The award for Namphing GPU, South Sikkim was received by the president Bikash Sharma and vice-president Durga Bahadur Subba.
The Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar (NDRGGSP) to gram panchayats for outstanding performance of gram sabha GPDP was awarded to Tingvong GPU, North Sikkim, which was received by the president Tshering Rapjor Lepcha and secretary Norgay Lepcha, the official release stated.
