Six candidates filed their nominations for the Meghalaya elections on Friday from different districts of Garo hills, which included two sitting legislators.
On Thursday, Nimerson Sangma of United Democratic Party (UDP) had filed the nomination at Ampati in South West Garo Hills.

The six candidates who filed their papers on Friday are Rongara – Siju MLA, Rophul S Marak (Ind), Samuel Sangma from Baghmara (Ind), Starline Momin from Resubelpara (Ind), Pillarson G Momin from Tikrikilla (UDP), Santush Sangma from Raksamgre (UDP) and Diliram G Marak from Selsella (Ind).
Nominations are expected to be filed on Saturday as well as the offices of the deputy commissioner will remain open on account of nomination filing.
With all parties having declared their candidates for the coming elections, a huge rush is expected in the before the deadline of February 7 for nominations. Scrutiny of nominations will be completed the next day. The last day of withdrawal of nominations is on February 12 with elections on February 27 and counting on March 3.

Election campaigns of all candidates are currently underway and will intensify in the coming days as the region gets set to choose a new set of leaders to lead the state in the coming days.
